Prickly
heat is an itchy rash that appears as small, raised red spots
particularly on the face and neck, chest, back and thighs. It
is caused by blockage of the sweat glands and is more common
in small children and the obese. Its name derives from the fact
that it is usually found in hot, humid conditions. It can be
quite distressing, causing loss of sleep etc.
The management of prickly heat is to move the affected person to a cool place, or, in a hot climate, to somewhere air-conditioned. Frequent showers are said to help in some cases. |
