| This 46-year old lady had a long history of abdominal pain for which she had received hospital treatment a year ago. She recently developed further abdominal pain, which was unlike that of her previous problem.
Following a 40 minute consultation, it became obvious that Mrs BC’s problem related to a recent family bereavement and her subsequent grief and not to a physical problem. The doctor was able to counsel Mrs BC and advise her on ways to deal with her grief.
Mrs BC subsequently telephoned the service to say that the advice she had received had been very helpful.
The doctor also commented that having time to talk to people was rewarding and useful in fully understanding the problem. |
